Ever randomly start thinking about beats, come up with that awesome combo, and wish you had some way of recording it? Well the iPhone has few applications that may help you there. I was reading over at TUAW.com and they’ve put together a nice article on how to carry your recording studio around with you. Alright granted you can’t go straight to final cut with the iPhone, but it’ll gives you good headstart when you get to the lab. Now that’s INNOVATION
Congratulations to DJ Shiftee for taking home 2nd place (Technical Category) at the Reebok 2008 IDA World Finals in Warsaw, Poland. The competition was tough as the top DJ’s from around the world were invited to compete for some pretty awesome gear. Notice any other awesome gear in the video?
History Lesson: I’m pretty new to the DJ scene, but have always been a fan so here’s a little background of the competition. For those that don’t know what IDA is (or maybe it’s just me), it stands for the International DJ’s Association. It was created by DJ’s around the world to promote turntablism, the usage of a gramophone as a musical instrument. That’s cool, but where’s the association to promote DBM Labs?
Ryan Lazanis is our special house music correspondent new to our DBM Labs family. He’ll be here in and out giving his house music expertise and if you have questions, he’s a cool guy — just ask away. In any case, here’s his little blurb on his top 8 underground house pics of 2008!

Let’s wrap up 2008 in style. Here are my top 8 house tracks of 2008.
1 – Marcelo Vasami – Is Back (Original Mix)
A wonderful producer from Argentina who makes some of the craziest house tracks you’ll hear. “Is Back” is just plain mezmorizing.
2 – Lexicon Avenue – Pursuit (Original Mix)
Scott & Chris are at it again with one of their latest single “Pursuit.” These are the guys that got me into progressive house in the first place.
3 – Remo – Gravy Train (Original Mix)
A nice spooky track from a solid producer.
4 – Nicholas Van Orton – Mighty Flowers (Original Mix)
The always refreshing Nicholas Van Orton takes us on another ride in his “Mighty Flowers” showing us his diversity by throwing in progressive house, tech house and techno elements in one great track.
5 – Sancho & E-Lation – I Want Your Soul (Schaamteloos DJ’s Mix)
A nice laid back house joint. Perfect for starting the night off.
6 – Erphun – 2wo Butterflies (I Butterfly Mix)
Only two words describe this track: simply amazing.
7 – Steve Bear Sas & Danny Buddha Morales – Black Sun (Original Mix)
Bear, an established DJ/producer in the Montreal area, and Buddha from NYC, bring us one of their signature house tracks with some killer vocals.
8 – DJ Tarkan – Remember Us (Tarkan & V-Sag Mix)
DJ Tarkan has been one of my favorite producers of the year and for good reason. Mostly everything he has put out in 2008 has been top notch quality.
